Sustainable Finance for Sustainable Projects Webinar

In April 2022, the ASEAN Working Committee on Capital Market Development (WC-CMD)’s Infrastructure Finance Working Group organized the Webinar on Sustainable Finance for Sustainable Projects in conjunction with the introduction of the Sustainable Finance for Sustainable Projects Conversation Pack (“Conversation Pack”) developed by the WC-CMD. The webinar was aimed at promoting and encouraging the use of sustainable finance for sustainable projects, as well as socialising the Conversation Pack.

The webinar consisted of the following two panel sessions:

Panel Session 1 – Sustainable Finance Instruments to Facilitate ASEAN’s Sustainable Projects

To drive sustainable financing for sustainable projects, it is crucial to look at both sides of the coin: the availability of sustainable projects and the financing avenues available to fund these projects. The panel discusses the key sustainable finance instruments available to facilitate financing of sustainable infrastructure projects. The panel will also talk about the types of projects that can utilise sustainable finance as well as the legal aspects that should be taken into account when considering sustainable financing. You will also hear from issuers of sustainability instruments, who will share their experience in this area.

  • Mushtaq Kapasi, Managing Director, Chief Representative Asia-Pacific, International Capital Market Association (Moderator)
  • Edwina Chin, Director, International Development, PwC

Panel Session 2 – The Role of Multilateral Development Banks & Policy Banks in Supporting ASEAN’s Sustainable Projects

Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs) and policy banks such as development finance institutions and banks with sustainability mandates play a key role in driving and supporting sustainable finance for sustainable projects. They can act as market facilitators to create liquidity, catalyse investments, and build investor confidence.

The panel discusses the role of MDBs and policy banks in facilitating financing for sustainable projects, as well as how they are supporting the inclusion of sustainability solutions in ASEAN member states’ projects and COVID-19 recovery plans.
